Bestselling author Laurie Halse Anderson is known for the unflinching way she writes about, and advocates for, survivors of sexual assault. Now, inspired by her fans and enraged by how little in our culture has changed since her groundbreaking novel Speak was first published twenty years ago, she has written a poetry memoir that is as vulnerable as it is rallying, as timely as it is timeless. In free verse, Anderson shares reflections, rants, and calls to action woven between deeply personal stories from her life that she's never written about before. Searing and soul-searching, this important memoir is a denouncement of our society's failures and a love letter to all the people with the courage to say #MeToo and #TimesUp, whether aloud, online, or only in their own hearts. Shout speaks truth to power in a loud, clear voice-- and once you hear it, it is impossible to ignore.

This was a moving and very powerful read. I liked that this was written in verse; it felt like it enabled me to get to know the author better. Although I read this quickly, I would not say this is an easy read. I think that reading the story of survivors is vital to us as a society, in order to better understand how such crimes are committed, and perhaps more importantly, to empower and support survivors. I highly recommend this for teens and adults.

A brilliant piece and follow up to Laurie's 'Speak.' Such an important, powerful read.

Laurie Halse Anderson's memoir in verse was every bit as powerful as I expected, and she deftly weaves discussion of consent and sexual harassment throughout her narrative. Her reflections on what readers have told her since the publication of SPEAK show that the book is, unfortunately, still a timely read today.

I loved Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak and it's one of my favourite books of all time. Reading Shout was a powerful and uncomfortable experience. Anderson digs deep into her childhood to share her experience as a sexual assault survivor and what it means to educate young men specifically about the role of consent. These poems are beautiful and haunting, and this book is easily worth the read.

I couldn't put this down until it was finished.

I feel his timely and evocative memoir told in verse, will serve as a call-to-action for some and a healing tome to others.

Halse Anderson shouts in this latest work about her experience, and about the communal experience of survivors of sexual violence - shared experiences of shame, silence, hurt, rage, redemption, healing, and love.

She assures those who are hurting, afraid, or enraged that they are not alone. She is standing with them.

A true must-read!

Powerful, raw, sweet, kind, angry, healing...all in one package. Amazing book in both the paper and audio formats.

A gritty poetic memoir where Laurie Halse Anderson shares the story of her own sexual assault and the impact that it had on her and how she ends up turning her life around.

Coarse Language: Used in a natural way that was in line with the tone of Anderson's poetry.
