"We should expect this young woman to be more powerful than our average novice, possibly even more powerful than the average magician."

This year, like every other, the magicians of Imardin gather to purge the city of undesirables. Cloaked in the protection of their sorcery, they move with no fear of the vagrants and miscreants who despise them and their work--until one enraged girl, barely more than a child, hurls a stone at the hated invaders . . . and effortlessly penetrates their magical shield.

What the Magicians' Guild has long dreaded has finally come to pass. There is someone outside their ranks who possesses a raw power beyond imagining, an untrained mage who must be found and schooled before she destroys herself and her city with a force she cannot yet control.

Great fantasy read. A bit slow to start off with but I have already put a hold on the next in the series! You fall for the characters enough that you want to see how it turns out.

these books are all better reads than you would think at first sight. If you have the patience to get through the first few (slower) chapters, and like magic, than this book is probably right for you.

poorly written and slow plot development. the story has potential, but unfortunately the writer just isn't very good. i made it about half way through the book before i skipped to the last few pages and was further disappointed by the end.

I liked this book more than I thought I would...took a little while to capture my interest, but in the end it was really good. Glad it's a series.
